I’m running for governor because I want to fight for working people. Despite Utah’s successes, too many of our families are still struggling to get by. Every Utahn deserves access to affordable health care, a great education, clean air, and a government that respects public opinion.
Like many of you, I am frustrated by a state government that too often ignores the public. The Utah Constitution says, “Each bill passed by the Legislature, before it becomes a law, shall be presented to the governor.” This check and balance in Utah is broken. Bills are rubber stamped and often approved without listening to the voices of ordinary Utahns.
Again and again our voters have adopted sensible ballot measures, only to have their representatives second guess the public's decisions. Too often our laws are orchestrated behind the scenes by lobbyists and special interest groups. I'm particularly troubled by the efforts of some to impose an unfair and regressive tax on food.
Utahns need a governor that will fight to protect the dignity of working families. As governor, I will work tirelessly to promote affordable health care, ensure quality education, uphold environment stewardship, and safeguard consumers. To achieve my goals as Utah’s next governor, I need your support to get my message out across the state.
Please join our campaign and let’s return balance to our great state.
